9:59 – Previously on Top Chef, Eugene made sushi…again. Ariane won…again. No I don’t get it either. Jamie was unlikable…again. Shocking, I know. Daniel put disgusting mushrooms in Carla’s salad & was pleased with a really, really bad dish. Bye, Danny!
10:00 – PS: The last 5 minutes of “Life” tonight? Were AMAZING!
10:02 – Apartment open. Ariane & I & America can’t believe she’s won the last two challenges. It is pretty shocking. Stefan & Fabio do dual interviews as Team Euro: Dorks Do America. (more…)

9:59 – Previously on Top Chef, Amy went home to Dallas for Thanksgiving & then to Santa Monica for excellent company morale-building exercise/sales meeting retreat, both of which caused her to fail to live-blog Top Chef. Don’t think I’m happy about this…Foo Fighters? Rocco DiSpirito? It was good stuff! Also, everyone kind of treated Ariane like their cute, slightly pathetic little sister when she actually won some stuff & some people named Alex & Richard were eliminated.
10:01 – Apartment open. Melissa begins with an interview about being scared to go home. At least she doesn’t sound surprised. (more…)

9:59 – Previously on Top Chef, we were introduced to waaay too many chefs. The gay & lesbian chefs immediately form Team Rainbow. Stefan is a Finn, yet also kind of a jerk. And two chefs who totally never deserved to be there in the first place were promptly dismissed. Working our way through the 3 second intro openings, yo.
10:00 – Man this show comes on late. I’m tired, y’all.
10:01 – Apartment open. One of the Team Rainbow members laments Patrick’s deserved elimination. Hey, if he didn’t want to get eliminated, maybe he should cook good food. Meanwhile, Team Incomprehensible Accents (Stefan & Fabio) interview incomprehensively.

9:59 – Brand spanking new season of Top Chef, baby! Let’s hope this goes better than the brand spanking new season of Project Runway. But in theory? This should be AWESOME.
10:00 – Padma reality show premise introduction speech. 17 chefs this year, good God. Did they think last season wasn’t long enough? Product placement prizes have not changed this year. And neither has the 3-second personality title introductions. Ah, I’ve missed you, tiny snippets of reality show personality.
10:02 – Predictably, we open on shots on New York. The chefs, whose names I will not be learning for another 3-5 weeks, arrive at Grand Central Terminal. (more…)

9:59 – Blogging from LA this week. Previously on Top Chef…Spike was finally, FINALLY eliminated. Unfortunately, that means that Lisa was not, so she & the three legitimate contenders—Richard, Antonia & Stephanie—are heading to Puerto Rico. If you squint, you can finally see the end of this endless season.

8:59 (b/c yes, I am now on Central Time) – Previously on Top Chef, Spike & Lisa are inexplicably still around at the beginning of the episode. Restaurant Wars return. Team Disaster predictably bomb. And Spike & Lisa are inexplicably still around at the end of the episode. Which mean Dale is preemptively eliminated. Aw.
9:01 – Everyone is excited that they’re close to the final 4. OMG, one of Spike & Lisa is going to make the final 4. That is so wrong!

10:01 – Watching the title sequence, I really can’t believe Spike is still here.

9:59 – Previously on Top Chef, Wedding Wars, baby! Dale is angry & bitter & tragically competent. Spike is a lazy, absurd jerk. And Nikki is finally, FINALLY eliminated. Only about 5 weeks later than she probably should have been.
10:00 – Apartment open. Everyone is still all tired from the cooking marathon. Spike interviews that Dale’s a-hole-dom will follow him through his career. Dude, no one is more of an a-hole than you, Spike. Andrew interviews that he’s got fire inside of him or something, I didn’t really pay attention because the next thing he says is that he feels like he’s either going to stab someone or cook something really good. OMG. I hope he stabs someone. That would make this show SO MUCH MORE AWESOME.

9:59 – Scrambling to get the live-blog set up…putting the DVR on pause, but am skipping the previously. Basically, Antonia exploits her unfair advantage of being a single mother on the way to winning the elimination challenge. Also, Crazy Mark the Crazy Australian is sent home.
10:00 – You know, usually I’m typing furiously during Padma’s little introduction before the title sequence. Wow, did not realize just how many product placements they pack into like a minute. Pretty impressive.
10:03 – The chefs head into the kitchen for the Quickfire, but instead of a guest judge, there’s Tom C standing there, looking smug. Padma tells them in a grave tone that the Quickfire winner will no longer receive immunity, which would be a lot more shocking if that didn’t eventually happen in every season of every reality show since the beginning of time.
