8:59 – Previously on Lost, the season happened. Hopefully, you watched the clips show. It wasn’t that bad this time. Eloise Hawking killed her only son, but before he died, Daniel managed to convince Jack that if he blows up Jughead, he can prevent the Hatch from being built, which mean preventing the eventual downing of Oceanic flight 815 & essentially erasing the entire course of action of the show. Jack has convinced a guilty Eloise to help him do it. Kate thinks he’s crazy, so she goes off to crash Sawyer & Juliet’s party on the sub, because ruining lives is what Kate does best. Meanwhile, in 2007 (which, my bad, I’ve been referring to as 2008 all this time), Frank Lapidus is being held prisoner by Ilana, who wants to know what lies at the base of the statue. Also, Sun, Ben & Locke, also in 2007, have hooked up with the Others & Locke is secretly planning to kill Jacob. And that brings us to tonight.
9:00 – I’ve decided my brain is going to hate me if I try to really live-blog this thing, so I’m not going to do as much recapping tonight. It will be more commentary, which means probably two hours of me going OMG!! WTF?!?! The Fringe finale demonstrated the art of the reveal, as only the Bad Robot team can do it, last night, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
9:01 – We open on some dude weaving cloth. Like on a loom & everything, wow. PS: This dude is played by Rita’s abusive ex-husband on Dexter, so I already kind of hate him. Okay, there’s a ship sailing in the distance…Black Rock, is that you? Man, when are we?? Another guy comes up to Rita’s abusive ex-husband, whose name I don’t catch. Who are these people? Second guy is mad about the ship & blames first guy. He really wants to kill first guy, but can’t. One day, he’ll find a loophole though. HOLY CRAP! It’s the statue!! No way or telling if it’s got four toes, but it’s definitely Egyptian & holding two ankhs. (EDIT: It’s been identified as Taweret.)
9:05 – Seriously, they need to give us some indication of time period. Who are these kids? Wait a sec, dark-haired girl with curly hair? Troublesome mean look? It’s Kate. Or lil’ Katie as it were. (Not a good sign, immediate groan for a Kate flashback.) Her shoplifted item is paid for by Rita’s abusive ex-husband, whose name I really wish I knew. As Eloise Hawking would say, who ARE you??
9:07 – In 1977, thank God we have a familiar setting. It’s the sub of great awkwardness. (more…)

8:59 – Previously on Lost, Mrs Hawking, one half parent, with Charles Widmore, of one Daniel Faraday, turned out to have spent her entire adult life raising and carefully manipulating a son she knew would one day be killed by her younger self. That’s cold, even for Lost’s parental issues standard. Before said time-traveling, mind-scrambling physicist Faraday walked into Others camp in 1977 to be shot by his own mother, he laid out the blueprints for Dharma janitor/dormant leader Jack Shephard for how to prevent the downing of Oceanic 815 & essentially erase the entire course of events of the TV series Lost. How? By blowing up a hydrogen bomb named Jughead. The same Jughead buried by Others advisor Richard Alpert. Also? Some of the cast was in the present (2008), but really, we haven’t thought about them in several weeks.
9:00 – We open at the last scene of “The Variable,” with Daniel stupidly brandishing a gun at Richard Alpert. Only this time, we see Jack & Kate in the brush, discussing what to do. Then, there’s that horrible shot & Daniel goes down. In the jungle, Jack springs up to go for the camp, but Kate holds him back. Just as they turn to run away, young Charles Widmore comes out swinging guns & knocks Jack down. He bloodies him up a good deal & perhaps Jack & Kate & Dan should have thought about ditching the Dharma unis, is all I’m saying.
9:02 – Meanwhile, Eloise Hawking, the one that just shot her own son, frantically flips through Daniel’s battered journal. She finds the inscription that her future self wrote him, recognizes her own handwriting & stares at the still, very very dead-looking body at her feet. Just then, young Widmore enters the camp with Jack & Kate in tow. Eloise asks if they came here with the dead dude, they say yes. Eloise says to put them in her tent. Charles asks her why the hell the Dharma Initiative is all declaring war & whatnot. Yeah, that’d be a shock to Horace too. Eloise exasperatedly notes that these folks clearly aren’t Dharma. How is Charles supposed to know that? Widmore thinks the same thing & asks where they’re from. Eloise does not pull a Daniel & say the future. Probably too soon, wait for the third date, honey.

8:59 – Previously on Lost, there was a lame clips show. Seriously, ABC, I expect better of you. Also, Daniel Faraday was unaccounted for for like half the season, then showed up in Dharma-time in a sub full of scientists from Dharma home base Ann Arbor. Dan sent Des to his mother and after he did that, Ben shot Des on the port before failing to kill Penny. And Des totally got right back up & pummeled Ben in the ocean! Awesome! PS: Happy 100th episode, Lost.
9:01 – We open in the hospital where Desmond is being wheeled off with a gunshot wound. Aw man, I thought with the pummeling & all, he was okay, like Ben missed or something. Penny is frantic. Me, too, Pen, don’t die, Des! Penny’s with lil’ Charlie. In the waiting room, she is approached by Mrs Hawking. Hi Mama Faraday! Mrs Hawking asks after Charlie, noting that he looks like his father. Penny realizes this isn’t some random woman & gets up. Mrs Hawking says she thinks it’s her son’s (meaning Dan’s) fault that Penny’s husband got shot. (Um, PS: Did we know that Penny & Desmond got married?? I don’t think we did! Whoa!) Penny is appalled this is the mother of Ben, but it’s not. It’s unclear whether Penny realizes who Mrs Hawking means when she says her son is Daniel Faraday.
9:02 – Flashback noise…it’s back in 1977. We pick up in the last scene of “Some Like it Hoth.” Miles takes the suitcase Dan hands him & is shocked to see Dan come out of the sub. He asks WTF Dan is doing back here, he thought he just went back to the mainland & got rich inventing the DVD or something. Heh. Dan shows Miles the picture of the 1977 recruits, with Hurley, Kate & Jack. He says that’s why he’s back. (more…)

8:59 – Previously on Lost, Daniel (back when he was on this show) theorized that the intervals it was taking for the Left-Behinders to develop temporal displacement followed by death was related the amount of time they’d spent on the Island. But Miles didn’t understand why he had a nosebleed since he thought the first time he came to the Island was on the freighter. Kate & Juliet conspired to give an injured lil’ Ben to Richard Alpert & the Others so that he can properly grow up to become a psychopath. Miles & Hurley debated the different theories of time travel. Also, PS: Miles can talk to dead people.
9:00 – We open on a microwave. In an apartment. An Asian woman is viewing it. Honey, I’ve been there. Apartment hunting is THE WORST. (more…)

8:59 – Previously on Lost, in 1977, Sayid went & shot some poor kid, who happens to be destined to grow up to be a sociopathic murderer. Kate, Juliet & Sawyer pass him off to Richard Alpert & the Others, who say that Ben won’t remember this. In season 4, Ben’s daughter Alex was killed. And, in 2008, Sun conked Present Ben on the head before heading off to the main Island with Frank. And Ben wakes up to a very much alive Locke. He kind of looks like he wants to throw up.
9:00 – Some dude arrives at a campsite. Richard is there. It’s Othersville, circa 1977. The dude is extremely pissed about Richard bringing lil’ hurt Ben to the camp. Richard said Jacob wanted it & the dude simmers down. He goes into the camp & looks at poor, unconscious lil’ Ben. Ben wakes up & asks what happened. He tells the guy that he doesn’t want to go back to his dad & Dharma-ville. The guy says that just because they send him back, doesn’t mean he can’t be one of “them.” The man tells him his name is Charles. Widmore!
9:03 – In 2008, Locke wakes an injured Ben up. Ben is stunned to see Locke all reincarnated. He tells Locke he was going back to the main Island to answer for what he did, for breaking the rules. He was going to be judged. By…the Monster! Exxxxcellent, thinks Locke.

8:57 – PS: Um, Better Off Ted? Pretty good. I watched about 10 minutes, laughed more than once! Of course the ratings suck & it’s dead in like a month, but still. I’m encouraged.
8:59 – Previously on Lost, Sawyer met Cassidy. Cassidy had a baby, Clementine, who she said was Sawyer’s. Kate & Jack broke up over Sawyer’s favor, probably involving Cassidy/Clementine, who also might have something to do with Dan Norton & the attempts to take Aaron away from Kate when they were off-Island. The O4 returned to the Island, circa 1977 while Sun, Frank & Present Ben crashed with the plane in 2008. Sawyer & Juliet covered up Kate, Jack & Hurley’s return by sneaking them into the Dharma Initiative, where Kate is working with Juliet at the motor pool, Hurley is a chef & Jack, hilariously, is the janitor. Also? Sayid got captured, then freed by pre-psychotic lil’ Ben. Despite the fact that if you turn your head to the side, lil’ Ben totally looks like Harry Potter, Sayid goes ahead & shoots him in the chest anyway, before he can grow up & become all murderous & creepy.
9:00 – We open on an unconscious Jin, who wakes up to Phil yelling at him over the radio. Jin tells him Sayid attacked him, but then sees a severely injured lil’ Ben on the ground next to him. I do still wonder how Sawyer & Juliet & Jin got to the point where they could just let lil’ Ben wander around Dharma-ville, like they don’t know he’s going to grow up to be a mass murderer.

8:59 – Previously on Lost, Sayid left the Island & became an assassin for Ben. Then the O6 became the O5, got on a plane & became the O3, but really the O4, with Jack, Hurley & Kate in the 1970s playing Dharma recruits courtesy of the Juliet/Sawyer long con special, Sayid a captive & in contact with young, creepy Ben Linus, & Sun stuck, with old, creepy Ben Linus, in the present. Although, to be fair, she also has Frank Lapidus, whose sheer awesomeness makes the entire situation not so bad for her, IMHO.
9:00 – We open in Iraq. Flashback, I’m assuming. Some dude grabs a kid & drags him outside. He says that he’s not a kid anymore & he has to kill a chicken like everyone else in the family. He can’t come back home until he does. The father stalks away & another boy comes up & shows the first boy a hand full of seed. He tricks the chickens into coming over to feed & then proceeds to snap the chicken’s neck. He tries to get the first kid to take the credit, but the first kid isn’t the sharpest animal killer on the farm so he doesn’t. So the father comes over & congratulates the kid who did the trickin’ n’ killin’. It’s Sayid, of course, he’s always been this gifted at death.

8:59 – Previously on Lost, there was a hiatus & I was so confused as to what to obsess over my entire life. Also, the Left-Behinders got stuck in the 70s & actually do a great job getting Dharmalized. Sawyer, for example, hooks an awesome job as head of security, gets to wear a snazzy jumpsuit AND is apparently in LOVE(!) with Juliet! But then, as always with this show, Kate has to fall out of the sky & ruin everything. Lame.
9:00 – We open on a plane. It’s Ajira flight 316. The O5 are sitting around moping. In the cockpit, Frank Lapidus endures his co-pilot talking about Hurley being an O6 member. Just as Frank is dismissing Hurley’s bravery, the turbulence starts. Frank still looks super weird without his Kenny Rogers beard. In the back, Hurley tells Caesar to fasten his seatbelt. Frank’s like, aw crap. The plane shakes & the screen goes white.
9:02 – Still in the cockpit, Frank & the other pilot are still there. The flash is over & the plane is failing. Frank somehow saves the plane from crashing right away onto the Island & then they see a runway. Is it the one the Others were building in season 3 perhaps? (more…)

8:59 – Previously on Lost, The O5 + Locke & & Ben & Lapidus & some new characters I still suspect are evil return to the Island. Locke, reincarnated, realizes that an injured Ben is the one who killed him. Meanwhile, back with the Left-Behinders…I’m sorry, who? I don’t know this “Sawyer” you refer to. Oh, those people we haven’t seen for like 15 episodes despite the fact that their story is like 800 times more interesting the O6 storyline. Those Left-Behinders. Anyway, they’ve been jumping around time & Charlotte died from the temporal displacement. Also? Jin found Jack, Kate & Hurley after they appeared on the Island. Double also? He is dressed like a Dharma worker & driving the Dharma van. Touche.
9:00 – We open in the scene after the flash that forced Locke to fall off the ladder into the clearing with the frozen donkey wheel. We pick up when Sawyer was holding onto the rope in the ground by Charlotte’s well. Miles & Juliet realize that they must be really far back in time because there’s a statue! A giant statue! FOUR-TOED, I BET!

8:59 – Previously on Lost, I missed out on blogging the O6—check that, the O5’s return to the Island. So much for “You all have to go back, Jack.” Meanwhile, back on the farm, Locke learned that he had to get all the O6 to go back & also, he has to die to do it. So he went down the Orchid, turned the frozen donkey wheel & next thing we know, he’s going by “Jeremy Bentham” & supposedly commits suicide, which we know via a note to Jack. I can already tell this is going to be one cheery episode!
9:00 – We open on a shadowy figure. It’s Caesar, the dude who was behind Jack in line at the Ajira counter at the airport. He’s in what appears to be a room with a lot of old stuff from like the 50′s. Also, there’s a random drawing of what we’ve seen to be the Dharma stations/energy fields. You might also have noted it’s also pretty similar to one of the drawings in Daniel’s journal, if you read Lostpedia, which of course I do, because let’s be real, it’s season 5, time to get serious with your mythology.
9:02 – The air marshal who was escorting Sayid, Ilana, comes in. She tells Caesar that they found a man. Standing in the water. In a suit. Who no one remembers from the plane. Caesar wonders if he is one of the ones who “disappeared.” They walk in the dark through the jungle to a campsite. Caesar greets the mystery man, who is obviously Locke. He is pleased to meet Caesar. Dun dun.
